AOR EXAM PATTERN

The Advocate-on-Record (AOR) examination is a descriptive, four-paper test conducted by the Supreme Court of India. Each paper is worth 100 marks and tests a specific area of knowledge essential for practicing before the apex court. To pass, a candidate must score at least 50% in each individual paper and achieve a total aggregate of 60%.

AOR EXAM HAVE 4 PAPERS

PAPER 1

PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE OF THE SUPREME COURT (100 MARKS) This paper tests your knowledge of the Supreme Court’s procedural rules, its various jurisdictions (original, appellate, writ), and the application of relevant statutes like the Code of Civil Procedure and the Limitation Act.

PAPER 2

Drafting (100 Marks) This is a practical paper where you are required to draft legal documents specific to the Supreme Court. Common questions involve drafting a Special Leave Petition (SLP), a Transfer Petition, a Review Petition, or a Writ Petition based on a given scenario.

PAPER 3

Professional Ethics & Advocacy (100 Marks) This paper assesses a candidate’s understanding of professional conduct and duties. The syllabus covers the Advocates Act, the Bar Council of India Rules, and legal principles from landmark cases related to professional ethics.

PAPER 4

Leading Cases (100 Marks) This paper tests your in-depth knowledge of landmark judgments of the Supreme Court. The questions are designed to check your understanding of the legal principles (ratio decidendi) established in these cases. The Supreme Court provides a list of the cases to be studied for this paper.
